Automated Blood Glucose Monitor (ABGM)

The Automated Blood Glucose Monitor (ABGM), using a  glucose oxidase sensor, is being designed to measure whole blood glucose levels at user-defined intervals. Its unique, closed system design is intended to minimize blood loss and infection risk.

How Will It Work ?

  • The system is connected to the patient utilizing a dedicated access site.
  • At user-defined intervals, a small sample of blood is drawn from the patient into the system.
  • The blood is drawn across a glucose oxidase sensor to measure the glucose level.
  • After the measurement is completed, a glucose value is reported and the blood is returned to the patient.
  • Between measurements, the system provides a continuous infusion to maintain line patency.

Targeted Benefits

The system will be designed to provide the following benefits:

  • More frequent blood glucose monitoring to minimize incidence of hypoglycemia.
  • Help clinicians achieve a patient's normal glycemic range more quickly.
  • Real-time tracking of glucose trends aids clinical decisions.
  • Reduced time and effort spent monitoring patient glucose levels.
  • Improved compliance with existing glycemic control protocols.

CAUTION: Investigational device, limited by Federal (or United States) law to investigational use.

The technology is protected by a series of issued U.S. patents. A number of additional U.S. applications and international applications have been filed.
